Corn husk dolls are a part of many traditions from the Native Americans to European settlers, to enslaved African Americans, to Witchcraft. The stories that are shared about corn husk dolls speak about themes such as childhood play, spirit of transitions, protectors of our homes, and reminders that our true beauty lives on the inside of each of us. The dolls are often burned in sacred healing ceremonies as well as in a ritual process of death that yields new life.
In this workshop, you will learn about the history of the corn husk doll, hear a couple traditional stories about the Corn Spirit, and make two dolls to keep. You will be invited to set an intention and connect with whatever tradition speaks to you as you create corn husk dolls that encompass the spirit or themes you want to invite into your life. After our time together, you will be invited to burn one of them during Samhain (October 31st) to release that energy out into the world and create space to reflect on what you are manifesting during the winter months to come. The other doll may be placed on your altar or in your home as a gentle reminder that when you let go of the old, you create space for the new.
This is event is child-friendly and a friend-date-night kind of class. Have a fun night out that will extend into the weeks leading up to Samhain with sharing the sacred space created in class until you burn your intention on All Hallow's Eve. What a treat!
