Spirals are everywhere in nature: we grow in spirals and we move in spirals. Even our DNA is a spiral! In this workshop, we will explore spirals in our inner and outer landscapes through experiential anatomy, meditation, movement in the outdoors, and working with plant allies. There will also be optional hands-on partner work.
Moving between anatomical study, plant study, and movement prompts as support for your somatic study, discovering and/or amplifying these spirals – where they are, what they feel like; how they can support you and how you can support them.
First, we will work with the heart and the blood – investigating how our heart and circulatory system develops and moves in spirals.
Then, we will investigate the spirals in our limbs – created by our early embryological processes from buds (yes, we too are like plants!). This investigation will be in collaboration with spirals we find and explore in the natural world, using somatic tools.
Finally, we will explore the strength of the spiral in our bones – the crystalline structure that develops from a relationship between us and gravity, us and Earth.
Throughout all of this body exploration, Dr. Ashley will guide us with the plants and weave herbal medicine into it all.

Dr. Ashley discovered Naturopathic medicine while studying plant medicine at Dancing Willow Herbs in Durango, Colorado. Prior to attending the National University of Natural Medicine (NUNM), in Portland, Oregon, Dr. Ashley worked as an educator, organic farmer, and herbalist in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State and in the San Juan Mountains of SW Colorado for over 10 years. It was in addition to these experiences and her love for the environment, combined with her curiosity for the plant world and all-things-wild that Dr. Ashley came to Naturopathic Medicine.
Dr. Ashley took over the role of leading the wild team of herbalists and witches at The Peoples Apothecary in 2021. The Peoples Apothecary is a space where magic happens and we create and produce over 30 house-blended teas, herbal tinctures, infused herbal oils and salves. It is Dr. Ashley's passion to pass along herbal knowledge to all.
